- Early Life
NJ Ayuk was born in Nigeria. After he finished his basic education, he attended a local school in Ikorodu, Lagos, until he completed secondary school. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Lagos in 1985. He pursued a Master’s Degree from the School of Law at the University of Oxford. While pursuing his studies, he worked as an oil sales and marketing manager for Shell International Petroleum Co (Nigeria) PLC during the 1980s and early 1990s. He then joined the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) as a legal adviser.
Therefore, he decided to pursue law to become a legal officer for NNPC. After completing his studies, he returned to Nigeria in 1995 and joined Ogundipe & Oyebode as a solicitor. While at this firm, he worked on various aspects of oil & gas transactions and energy contracts. In 1997, he became a partner at Ogundipe & Oyebode.
