India is the second largest nation on earth by population, but it is the largest populous democracy. Agriculture has always been its biggest economic sector. However, in recent years, India has rapidly modernized and developed its manufacturing capabilities and has become a significant exporter.

All of this comes as no surprise to Sudhir Choudhrie, an Indian-born British citizen who has long predicted that India would one day command a major seat on the global economic stage.

Sudhir Choudhrie played a key role in the recent economic renaissance of his native nation. After graduating from the University of Delhi with degrees in economics and finance, he launched his first business just months after he completed college.

His successful import-export operation traded almost exclusively between India and the U.K. in its first months of commerce. However, Sudhir Choudhrie soon moved to expand his global reach. In 1975, he established the Magnum International Trading Company. It was soon dealing with dozens of trade partners around the world, including the former Soviet Union.

Born in 1949, Choudhrie muses that his career has been almost a mirror of the relationship between India and the U.K. ever since the former nation wrestled its independence from British rule two years earlier in 1947. Shortly after independence, India embarked on the tumultuous years known as “The Partition.” This involved the creation of the independent dominion of Pakistan.

For Sudhir Choudhrie, however, his focus was on business – creating jobs and opportunities for his fellow countrymen and women. He eventually expanded his interests well beyond import-export. Choudhrie made savvy investments in aviation, hospitality, medical, real estate and other sectors.

He found success wherever he placed his keen business acumen.
